Default high way bump stearing wheel shack

Hi all,

i have a dodge Dakota 2006 and having issues driving it on highways. when ever i go over dumps on highways over 50 MPH the steering wheel shacks. it was pretty bad few weeks ago so i replaced the inter tie rod and now it's better but still shacking. i did the 6 / 12 o'clock and 3 / 9 o'clock test on the wheels and no movement at all. tires are inflated to 35. new shocks last year. does anyone have a suggestion what i should look for to get rid of this issue?
thanks

Welcome to the 3rd gen Dakota forum. Did you replace both inner tie rods or just one?

not quite sure what you mean by "shack" but if you mean the the steering wheel will kick to one side over dips or potholes.

its because the factory angles on the steering is best friends with bump steer. and they come out to play every day. not a very well thought out design by good ol dodge

3rd gen daks are notorious for the racks having play. Somebody made a video a week or two ago that show his steering wheel moving back and forth as he went over a bump.

Pretty sure that "shack" = "shake".

That would be my video. My issue was truck would wonder all over the road. If I hit a bump the truck would take off unpredictable. Some times in the direction the wheel was facing, sometimes in the opposite. Final steering/suspension item that was replaced after 3 years of chasing. The stupid rack.

thaks all for info. yes i changed both inter tie rods. i changed all 4 tires yesterday and it seams better but truck is still rough over dumps but not as bad. Perhaps a bad (cheap) shocks? what do you recommend for a good shocks?
what i notice now is when i go over bumps there is a thump sound coming from the stearing and shakes. i guess this is what you refered above about play.

Crappy shocks will cause the wheel to bounce whenever you hit a bump. Most guys are using the monroe 71100 or rancho rs5757 in the front and monroe 911277/rancho rs5315 in the rear.
