What?! I thought the military was shipping both your vehicles for you? They seriously expect you to leave a vehicle behind and drop down to one vehicle for two people? That's not cool at all.

I wish they would pay for both of them. If we were dual Military, i.e. my wife was also they would pay for it. I'm emailing the command to see if I can get a hook up. I have come up with another idea. If I sell the blower setup that would give me the extra $ to ship my truck. That would give me a project for later down the road anyway, lol.

3k to ship there + 3k to ship back. shoot son, sell the expensive parts and then it now and pocket that money. next, create a budget (for the next 3 years) to pocket the 6k you would have spent on shipping. i am not aware of your financial status but 6k over 3 years is 2k per year. that is saving roughly 165 a month...even if you make chump change at mcdonalds, you can do that (especially if you arent making payments *ding ding ding*). You should have a real nice lump for when you get back. then, get something better than a dakota, or purchase a dakota then (which will be MUCH cheaper) and you still would have come out on top.

that seems like the only choice i really see. make your $ work for you, not against you. if you need a vehicle for over there, buy a clunker. it will last...still come out on top.

for 3k here is a decent car and not a clunker. no pics but sounds good...2001 VW cabrio - 68k miles in honolulu...in 3 years time you can prob sell it for 2ish and bam...you still come out way on top...

I haven't ruled that out just yet. I just put my water to air intercooler setup on ebay. Shame I never got to install it and test it out.

Hell of a dilemma. Surely they could make room on one of the ships headed that way sometime. Or have they privatized shipping vehicles?

Billy, it would really, totally suck if you had to get rid of/part out the Shangri-La of Dakotas, the no hands down , bar none, baddest 3rd gen Dakota that has ever graced the pages of this forum. I only hope if that is truly the case, you will come back in 3 years badder than ever.....you are the inspiration for all of us, the "truth" for Dakota owners and gear heads alike...you have let me personally know what we can do to our trucks besides bed stripes and gutter guard grills. I admire your skills and also your commitment to serving this country. Go to Hawaii...live the life....have some fun...and then build something else to be proud of and for the rest of us to envy when you get back...rock on brother!

Thanks Kent & Eric. You guys are awesome. As it stands now it looks like I will be leaving it in Oklahoma in tact and probably just drive it when I take leave every year. My MIL/FIL are going to let me store it at their place. I would cry all year if I sold it, lol. I've been depressed just thinking about it.
