how to stop cracking in upholstery?
i have a small crack in the upholstery of the door panel on my driver side, its right where my knee sits and presses into the door, its a comfortable spot for my knee lol. its right on the section where the window controls are but where it has the space for your hand so you can close the door. its about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch long going vertical. i was wondering if you guys had any tips on stopping it from getting any bigger? the only thing i could think of was putting some type of silicone/adhesive type stuff.

same here. i would suggest you take a tiny drillbit and drill just a bit farther than the crack. this will stop the crack from continuing, only to the point of where you made the hole. this is a good practice to any plastics that are cracking. you can then try to come up with something to repair the crack.

not sure of the physics of it, but the trailer mechs at work do it when roofs crack on semi trailers. they drill a hole at the very ends (both)of the crack and the hole prevents the crack from speading farther. i would guess the hole relieves the stress at the end of the crack, the longer the crack was, the larger the hole they would drill. I have pulled trailers with chunks of roof missing at 70 mph and the other cracks did not expand past the drilled holes. That is a lot of wind buffetting that would normally rip more chunks out of the roof and send them sailing into the highway. I'm talking those opaque plastic roofs that let sunlight thru the roof like a UPS delivery van has.
