Default Check engine light won't light

I have a 2005 Dakota. The check engine light never illuminates. Not when I turn the key or any other time. It's throwing a couple error codes but the light never comes on. Is it a bulb or an LED on a board? Any info would be appreciated.

I think it's part of the electroluminescent thingy....here is a how-to on removing the cluster:
