Default Lift kits

I'm new here, so if this is in the wrong spot, my apologies.

I've been contemplating (not 100% yet) on lifting my 2008 dakota and adding a little bit bigger tires. I tried looking at prices, but I dont know what is supposed to be in a kit. I saw one with only small parts, so I'm not sure.

What I'd like to know roughly how much it would cost to lift it, not including the tires ( I figure they will be a pretty penny). If you've done it, how much did it cost you?

Thanks and hopefully I didnt break any rules/post in wrong section.

first off. their are 3 kinds of lifts available for our truck.
1. Body lift (fairly cheap but effective)
2. strut spacers in the front, lift blocks in the rear (can be less than $100 if u shop online)

3. (now this one can be a bit expensive but it can give you alot of lift depending on how you go) Get a new truck that has more options.

thats about it. i personally have the strut spacers and so far i love it but i know there are others here that have body lift and they seem to like their's alot.

This is about it at the moment for anything commercially available but there are other projects in the works. use the search function and search for lift and look at all the threads. there is alot of info here. you just have to use the search button.

Thanks cheeseburger (that sounds good right now, actually ).

Whats the difference between the #1 and #2?

Ive been on quite a few forums and most search buttons arent good. I'll give it a shot, though. Thanks!

difference between 1 and 2 is #1 is a body lift only, it involves installing spacers between the frame and the body. It only lifts the body off the frame, does not increase ground clearance but does allow for bigger tires. #2 is a "suspension lift", (this is the only option we have for our trucks) you install a coil spring spacer in (or on, depending which spacer you buy) the front coil/shock assembly and lift blocks at the rear axle. You can combine body/suspension lists and get 5"-6" of lift. If you have a 2wd, you could get away with 2-1/2 or 3" coil spring spacers, if you have a 4x4, anything over 2" would put the front CV joints at an extreme angle that could result in pre-mature failure. With the combined lifts I think you can get 33-35" tires? There are a couple guys on here (dakkkota, hendrixx324) who have body/suspension lifts and really big tires, maybe they will chime in as well. I do know that really big (33" and over) requires major fender liner trimming. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your truck. Be sure and post some pictures of your truck....
