I have an '05 Dakota V8 that had water in gas tank. Dropped and changed gas tank, changed MAP sensor and replaced all plugs. The truck runs rich in gas. Anyone know what the problem could be. No engine light on.
Thanks to all who replied and here is the gist of it. Took truck to a mechanic after off roading experience failed. Got it stuck in a creek and after rescuing it, wouldn't start. Mechanic states there was water in tank. How? Beats me, but after he dropped and replaced tank, truck seemed to be missing or stuttering a bit. Black smoke intermittently exits tailpipe. Filled it with 14 gallons of gas and 1 day later had to fill another 14 gallons. Only got 143 miles. Changed MAP sensor, and plugs. Truck was sumberged in water about 1-1.5 feet deep. Water could have gotten in tailpipe.
I would look at the front of the truck rather than the rear....check the O2 sensor connectors, check the air filter and the intake system, I'd pull the plugs, change the oil...check the TPS, the AIT, pull the intake off and make sure nothing has been sucked into it that would restrict air flow.
The problem could just be an electrical connection like Kent said. I did the offroading/swap thing once, and never again. I had to disconnect everything under the hood and blow it out with the air compressor. Have you got the engine warmed up enough to evaporate any water out of it that may have gotten in the system? Are you getting a CEL for running rich?
