New dakota lurker
Hello everyone, I am looking to purchase a new Dodge Dakota Crew Cab 4x4 probably around or just a hair after the holidays. I have a very easy question.
-I've always had hand-down cars (parents gave me their used when they bought new, etc.) and I'm not quite sure how to negotiate. I saw some posts in the RAM forums with people talking $8K even more off the MSRP. How do you convince a dealer to take that much off?
Thank you very much, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum!

The dealer buster seems to be a good way to get the price you are looking for. Here's the thing though...our dakotas (3g) have severly lost their value since Chrysler decided to market the truck against the Ram. So, if you are looking for a used 3G Dak, you will only get a few thousand bucks off, if you are lucky. The reason is: when that person sold the Dak to the dealer, they gave them a horrible trade-in or selling value. So, the truck will be priced low, but not marked up $8K. If you are looking for a new Dak, I wouldn't even suggest buying it. As soon as you drive it off the lot, you will have lost $10K (thats what happened to me with in one year of purchase). Although, you could haggle the dealer for around $8k if the truck has been on the lot for a while and they want to get rid of it.
The choice is yours, but I would suggest buying a used one. You can find them for a great price, and get one hell of a truck.

X2 on what donkey said. I never buy a vehicle new. Let someone else take the depreciation. There are plenty of low mileage 3rg gen (05 - up) on the market for decent prices. I always say, go to carmax website and search for them. They have tons. Thats where I got mine.
Thank you both very much for your suggestions! I actually found a bunch of used 2010/2011 Dakota CC 4x4's with relatively low mileage.
I'm sorry I sound like such a noob here, but say if I saw one priced at $24,999. Your saying right off the bat try to make a deal for anywhere between $19,000 - $20,000 and go from there?
Thank you!

Also something else I'm noticing, is that a lot of Dakota's either offered brand new, or barely used (2010/2011) all have the 3.7L V6 engine in them. Whatever happened to the 4.7 V8? Or maybe it's just a bad coincidence that the ones I'm looking at all have the V6 engine in them. lol

Look around dude. There are some tools online that can help u b a tougher negotiator, like websites that tell u how much the dealer paid for the car.
I picked up my 2006 truck in 08 with 30k miles. 12000 out the door and its the V8!
With the whole deal witht gas prices I really don't think u are going to have a hard time finding people who are looking for a quick sale.
