Default HELP! may buy a dakota...

Whats up guys, I am in the market to buy a new pick up truck and i need some help on the dakota. I love the look of this truck and its just the right size.
My questions reside around performance. I have owned several "fast" mustangs and currently drive a 14 second GTI. (not fast) I would like to purchase a black, ex cab 2x4 4.7 big horn dakota and turn it into a street truck. slight drop, intake, pipes tune.. nothing crazy.
My question is what are the factory performance figures on a 2x4 4.7?
I have searched the web high and low and there is a very small amount of info around the 2008 plus performance.
from what i can tell a 4x4 quad cab hits 60 in around 7 seconds and 15s in the 1/4 around 88-90mph. Has anyone ran a 2x4 ex cab at the track. logic would tell me this should be a mid 14 second truck right out of the box.

OOOOR... would i just be better off buying the new ram express?

thanks for the help in advance. also, are there lowering kits avalible for 3rd gens?

Welcome to DF!

I'm more of a 2 Track Truck guy but if you want a performance street truck you want to get one of the 4.7 High Output motors to start with.

Only stock performance data I know of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_D...ird_generation

Only thing I know about lowering them (I'm looking into the TM front end lift myself...) https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...nt-ban-me.html

thanks, for the responce. i def want the 4.7HO, seems like this power to weight ratio should make it a beast.

08+ is already h.o., it makes around 300hp stock. With a tuner, intake, exaust uts an easy 350hp. The problem is the weight, at around 6k she's a beast.

before you make your decision you may want to price all the stuff you want to buy for it. there isnt much in the way of aftermarket support for a 3rd gen.

If you don't need the ext cab of the dak, the express w/ hemi will have far more (and less expensive) options. I believe it runs low 14s right out of the box too.

I know the 08+ have 300hp out the gate, but the torque management is horrible (this is what i hear anyways. I own an 06 4.7ho). After a tuner, exhaust, and cai i hear there are nominal gains.

Hope that helps.

More aftermarket for the hemi so if you want unlimited tuning options go with a ram hemi.

After owning a 400hp Dakota R/T, SRT-4 and Camaro Z-28 I was in the boat for a quick 4 door truck (have kids now) and the Dakota was really the only choice for a quick truck that doesn't get 13 mpg. After adding the programmer and a few bolt ons (throttle body, cold air intake, exhaust) it fills my need for speed with the exception of "off the line" power. I believe some 4:10 gears or higher would fix that. Once your rolling it's a beast, this fall I would like to take mine to Houston Raceway Park and see how the numbers stack up. Probably would expect a high 14 second time which is fine for a truck that gets 17-22 mpg and can haul some people. I would prefer a high 12 second truck but already been there and done that, so I'm good.

My 08 is a 4WD (AWD actually), TRX4, quad cab, V8 and curb weight is listed at 4782, according to Dodge. As far as I know the only model that's heavier is the Laramie by like 100-200lbs.

I've seen the 6000lb # on some websites too, but they're obviously wrong.
