Default For anyone looking for an extra key fob

Hey guys,

If you're looking for a new key fob, don't think it has to cost an arm and a leg. You just have to figure out if you have a transponder key or not. When you insert the key in the ignition and start the truck, if you have a red light in the bottom right corner of your dash, you do. Otherwise for some of us we have no transponder, which makes the keys even cheaper. I just offered this guy $30 shipped and I'm getting a refurbed blank key:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...X%3AIT&vxp=mtr

If you want a new oem key with no transponder for under $46 shipped:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120668819399...84.m1423.l2649

Otherwise a key with a transponder normally runs $65 or so shipped (check part numbers):

Our keys are easy to copy, so any hardware store should be able to do it. Ive made a few copies of my key already since I work at an Ace. Just thought I would share for anyone that wants another key fob but doesnt feel like getting raped.

PS- If you have a transponder key, you will need 2 working keys to program it to your truck yourself. If you don't have a transponder key, you just need 1 working key fob to program additional ones. And a double cut at a hardware store should be about $3-5. Cheers!

So the keys with the transponder are easy to cut?

I always wanted to get a 3rd key, just in case.

Yup, the transponder only makes a difference when programming, not cutting. Im just using a simple shelf unit to duplicate my key. Some car keys are a PITA to cut because of the different grooves, but these keys are very simple and any hardware store should be able to do it.

Just checked and I don't have a chipped key. (No light on my dash.)
You can tell by the part number on the back of the key fob.
My key, P/N 56038751AH is not chipped.

The easy way to tell if you need a chipped key is to search by your part # on Ebay. (Ex. Dodge & P/N)
The part numbers that the key for sale covers will be in the description of the item.

The link that you gave in the OP did not include my part number, so I'm not positive that key would work with my truck. It might.
I found one with my part number for $47 shipped, or 2 for $85 shipped. In for 2 more, what the hell.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-OEM-DODGE-...item19c75d99ae

FYI, you can program up to 8 key fobs to use on our trucks.

Good info Dakotaff!

I was going to buy from the same seller you linked but I figured I would try offering a little less on the refurbed one and the guy accepted. I can't say for sure, but I think 05 and 06 were the only years that had some trucks that didn't come with transponder chips. 2007 should have transponders in all the keys.

I should be getting the new key by the weekend, and then Im going to replace the batteries in my current key fobs and I should be all set for a long time.

My key hasn't worked to open the doors in over a year. Stupid thing won't program to the truck anymore.
And yes, I checked the battery, and yes, I followed all the fancy instructions in order to reprogram it. No luck....
I have another key that works just fine, but would love to have a couple with the door buttons to work.

As far as I know, you need two working key fobs for you to be able to reprogram a fob to your truck.
So I think your only option is to have a dealer program your 2nd transmitter for it to be able to work.
Then with 2 working fobs, you could easily program more yourself.

From the Owners Manual.

Customer Key Programming
You can program new keys to the system if you have two
valid keys by doing the following:

1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition and turn the
ignition to the ON position for at least 3 seconds but no
longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition back to the OFF
position and remove the first key.

2. Insert the second valid key and switch the ignition to
the ON position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a
chime will sound and the Security Light will begin to
flash. Turn the ignition back to the OFF position and
remove the second key.

3. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition and switch
the ignition to the ON position within 60 seconds of
having removed the second key. After 10 seconds, a
single chime will sound. The Security Light will stop
flashing, then turn on for 3 seconds; then turn off.

The new Sentry Key has been programmed. Repeat this
process to program up to a total of 8 keys.

Are you sure you dont have a transponder key?
If so, have you tried replacing the battery in the remote that isnt working?

The sodler on the contacts for the battery are known to crack and cause issues.

You need 2 working keys for the sentry/transponder keys.

You only need 1 if you have the key with no transponder. To enter the programming mode you just hold the lock and unlock button on the working remote with the key in the ignition (on position) until you here the dings.
