Default Ok guys, quick question

So after dealing with this vibration for a while, one of my front wheel bearings is about shot. I am guessing the right side because the tire is wore down to just under 1/32 of tread . Grinding, howling, and humming away at speeds as low as 10 mph and the vibration has gotten worse. I am going to replace it and see if that solves my vibration problems.
1. Do I need the whole hub or just the wheel bearing? ( I know I need ABS with the hub)
2. What holds the cv shaft onto the hub? Does it just slide out or is there a snap ring somewhere?
Thanks in advance guys

From what I have seen you need the whole hub assy. The CV shaft is held on the hub by a either 21, 22 or 23 mm nut (I cant remember...). That thing was a biotch to remove...I broke a 1/2" craftsman ratchet trying to remove mine.

i JUST replaced both of mine, both of which were so FUBAR took 20 minutes of beating it with a hammer to get them off. the amount of drag they create when fubar is crazy. but anyways, i got mine at napa for $118, get the whole wheel hub assembly, and make sure you get a new axle nut b.c they are torque to yield. a guy in the 2g section didnt get a new one and the nut backed off and destroyed his new hub.

oops...I reused my old nut when I replaced the axle shaft because the new nut supplied was a different size and I did not have a socket to fit it...

You will need the whole hub assembly. If your truck has front wheel abs you will need this one. If it has Rear wheel abs it will need this hub.

The spindle nut shouldn't need to be replaced as it is not torque to yield. It is however important to properly torque it down. Failure to do so may result in premature bearing failure. This is the new spindle nut if you wish to replace it.

To aide removal of the c/v axle i recommend using some penetrating oil and a BFH. One loosened you can remove the bolts that hold the hub to the spindle then pull the hub off of the c/v axle.

another thing worth mentioning is even if you only have rear wheel abs you may stiill have the abs sensor going into the original hub doing nothing. the new hub will not have the hole for it so you have to tie the wire off to something.

its pretty easy at least for the 2G. a 32mm socket for the axle nut and t47 for the 2 caliper bolts and then 3 15mm i think that hold the hub on the knuckle. not sure if you need to remove the axle shaft, but I didnt have to.

I know a guy who owns a garage. He can have it apart in five minutes if you have an old junk rotor that will fit the truck. He takes out the 3 nuts on the hub and then the axle nut, then he puts the rotor on and runs the lug nuts down. He then puts a bar up against the rotor and starts the truck and turns the steering wheel until the bar hits the frame and the hub pry's itself apart. Yea, it's pretty neat to see.
