Monroe Strut Mounting Kit
Did anyone buy these when they replaced their struts? It says it's a part that wears out with the strut but I'm skeptical since I can't see that Rancho offers the same part..

both of my original top hats failed, I swapped one due to a heavy rattle in my front passenger strut, now I have the same problem in my front driver side.
The bolts pull through over time and get loose.

So it's a strut bearing too, the spring rotates on this as it compresses and decompresses... so it makes sense that it would wear out. Over time, I guess it gets thinner and thinner from the rotating friction.
If you have a rattle that you can't pin down, this may be a good place too look. I don't see much attention being brought to this part here on the forums, or anywhere for that matter.
I have been able to track 4 manufacturers of this part; Monroe, KYB, MOOG, and someone called Westar. Here are the part numbers...
Monroe 905913
KYB KYB1847404 or 1847404
MOOG K160049 or 160049
Westar WSST5913 or ST5913

I had my struts replaced at 115k and by 117k I needed the strut mount on the passanger side replaced. It was a rattle over every bump and imperfection in the road, almost like my sway bar link was gone. Honestly, the extra $50 for new mounts is worth it. I ended up spending over $300 more after diagnosis, installation, and alignment when it wouldn't have costed anything more in labor to have it done right away. I wish I could say its the shops fault for not noticing the worn out mount, but honestly I couldnt even tell after they pulled it out. I was just happy the terrible rattle was gone.
Heres what you get with the Monroe kit:

I ended up putting that rubber isolator that was included against the mount, then my 1.5" TM spacer, and then the stock rubber spring isolator to seperate the spring. The strut assemblies changed in the 2006 model year, and they have plastic moulded isolators IIRC. The way I had mine installed works just fine.
Advance had the best deal when I bought mine. I needed them shipped because they weren't available in store. If you use code ES123, you can get $20 off of $50, bringing them to $40 plus about another $10 for shipping. Or, if you can find them in a store near you, you can still use the coupon code and do instore pick up.
