Well, I have a shared driveway between our houses - just wide enough for two vehicles and still allowing doors to open. My garage has had a car in it once - not big enough for a dakota. My neighbours garage is big enough for his car (VW Golf, with a Lotus Elise turned sideways in front of it!). There are always 4 or 5 cars around between us, so when it snows, they get covered! The two houses make sure that drifts get dumped on the vehicles.

So that much snow on the my truck is not a rarity, but not every day either. Snowing now as I came into work. It is supposed to become freezing rain, but I'm hoping that stays to the south.

But it's just snow, that's what happens when the fine powder type snow is blown by high winds. The only risk here is scratching while trying to brush it off, or letting it turn into ice if the temps are right.

Half inch of ice on my truck this morning - promissed snow was freezing rain instead. Remote started the truck to get rid of the ice on the windows, let the rest sublimate in the cold! No need to scratch!

up here in the chicago suburbs, a remote start is almost a must have for the winter months.

This is my first remote start. Never thought I needed one, just bundle up and out you go, clean off the snow and start the engine. Now that I have one, I use it just to use it . . . .

Mine didn't work well for the longest time (bought truck in August this year), it wouldn't start, or would start and quit either when the lights came on or just before. Found an installation menu on line, then "re-taught" the system. Works perfectly now!

i lost my main controller (along with my keys, lucky not the ignition key) but i have a backup set and the range on that remote sucks, mine has a 3000ft range and trust me, its handy.

I love my remote start too It's so nice to have a nice warm truck in the morning after working all night in the freezing cold. I just wish the range was better.

I am OK with a few minutes of cold in the initial drive-away to avoid the harmful effects on the engine caused by a lengthy idling period. All the advice I have seen recommends a 30-second warm up idle. Of more value to me was the steering wheel heater on my former car (Infiniti). Awesome!
