Is your rad plugged with mud or something? The fan should only run on occasion. The rad should do most of the work.

Mine only ever bumps up to half while towing. Make sure you keep the rpms up to circulate the fluids and keep it working.

Does your truck have a SPAL controller?

I've received order to Corpus Christi. I'm going to be in charge of the Engineering shop on a Coast Guard 87" ship.

I'm going to change out my water pump to the GMBH (name?) with the metal impeller. Before, when I had the taurus fan and the derale controller I towed about 6000lbs across NC (level ground), but didn't overheat. This was in the fall though.

When I changed mine it was on my 02 Dak, so either it's easier on 3rd gen or it was hard because that was one of the first "big" things I ever did, ya know, beyond tire/oil/air filter change. Now that I think of it though, mostly it was getting the clutch fan off that was the frustrating part for me.

From what I've seen they are easy to remove. Drain coolant, remove belt, unbolt, bolt in new one, attach belt, fill back up, admire your work!
