Default Odd Brake Defects...

So the inspection rejection bug got my 07. I dropped the truck off at a new garage yesterday (I moved in the spring, and my old garage was kinda out of the way and this new place inspected my wife's car and I was pretty happy with the work). The new garage is a one man show with a two bay garage. Seems like a nice honest man. Anyways at about noon time I get a call from the mechanic and he tells me I have some minor issues, with one causing the truck to fail. My front brakes were bad. He claimed I had one pad that was partial delaminated and both rotors had deep pitting on the backside. He quotes me $365 for new rotors and pads, in which I decline because I know the extent of the work (4 bolts) after the tire is off and was certain I could do better. Anyways after some research I pick up medium grade pads and rotors for $150 bucks. I tear down one side and realize, I need the fancy brake pad clips that the parts store (I won't mention names) failed to include or remind me I needed. I find out after I am tore half down that no place stocks them besides the dealer, whom charges me double or $16. After all the hassle, I have both sides, rotors, pads and clips replaced. I did have one pad delaminated for about a good inch long. Its impressive he seen this while it was still on the truck, however the pitting is the odd part. I'll take pictures tonight of it, but I have a few dime sized areas with measurable section loss on both rotors. I am not talking about grooves or anything, it's actual loss from corrosion. I haven't seen this before. Has anyone ever come across this on your truck? Oh yeah, here's a kicker, I am about 50 miles short of 40k...

Mines an 05, I'll let you know when I tear into it in january. Sounds like poor steel that had different hardnesses inside or more carbon than its supposed to.

I didnt think about that, I guess it could have been encapsulated scale, when the rotor wore so much it exposed the scale thus it popped off causing the void...

i just replaced my pads a couple weeks ago. Rotors looked fine. Re-used the clips on the original pads. Have not had any issues.

Yes many pad vendors don't include the clips. AutoZone was good enough to order me a set and had them in two days for about $4.00. My rotor vented centers where rusted so bad there was actual chunks of metal missing from the vented extrusions. Talk about bottom of the barrel factory parts that the factory used. The pads where warn even but they where ready and the rotors where warped. I used Performance Brake and ordered there dimpled & slotted lifetime no-warp warranted rotors and premium pads. So far so good. I replaced the rear drums and shoes and hardware also.

The corrosion all seems to be in lines, sort-of, all at similar angles. Could it be the resting place of the pads after a drive? Does your truck sit a lot, or did it in the past, being exposed to the weather?
