Default Radiator upgrade?

I have had two instances of my truck overheating. Both times I've just shut it down and drove nicer or whatever. I'm checking everything out tomorrow, but since our radiator seems to be a cheap single row, is there any upgrades?

Has anyone upgraded them here? Maybe a simple 2 row design? I have a monster one from my old mustang, but I really don't think it would be fun fittting and fabbing it in there.

I think since my problems are only when I tow, and one of those times it was 110* and in the mountains, BUT, kinda curious to see what's out there and if it's worth it.

Have you thought of doing the HHR efan mod. It pulls a pretty ridiculous amount of air, more than the stock fan does I believe.

If you are overheating with the stock setup, putting in a larger radiator isn't a fix to the actual problem. Check the temp of your coolant, do a pressure test on the system, ect.

Did a coolant flush.
Actually checked plugs today and looks like I need a range cooler yet. Gonna grab some autolite 3922's.
Also, I've only overheated a couple of times. And by that, I mean, if I kept pushing it, it would have overheated.
Also found that I had an air bubble in there from when it was flushed, but that was AFTER I had done all the trailering etc. Even so, fixing that for sure.

Back to the original question....
A single row radiator of only 18x22 for core size, is NOT by ANY means a good radiator for towing.

I am actually thinking of purchasing a flashpaq instead of messing with all that so the truck actually has decent shift points and such. That should actually help the towing and the mpg's daily a good bit in my mind.
Otherwise, I would want to make sure I have over 4000 cfm of fan on that thing.
Also getting a transmission cooler in order to keep some heat out of the transmission, and away from the radiator.

OVERALL GOAL: mpg's without sacrificing towing capability

I know this is an older thread, and I just posted in a newer one, but I was curious if you found something better than the stock radiator.

Not yet.
I finished a boat, rebuilt a camper, and got a flashpaq for my truck. Looking into that next probably though!!!

swap to a 180 t-stat and do the HHR e-fan mod, guarantee your temperatures will stay down

I have done that, but wouldn't an all aluminum 2 row radiator be sweet?
