So, for those of you that have painted, plasti-dipped, or bedlined your fake, chrome crosshair grill, I have some questions:

What prep work did you do prior to spraying?

How many coats?

Suggestions on products or proceedures?

I'm planning on using bedliner for mine, but want to spray 6 coats on it, for durability, but want to make sure I'm taking all the right steps.

 

It's certainly on my list of things to do, If you are doing bedliner I personally would just use something more coarse like and rough it up. Doesn't have to be super smooth for bedliner, and it will adhere better I would think.

 

With mine, I sanded the chrome off with a power hand sander w/ 200 and 320 grit, sprayed adhesion promoter, etching primer (2 coats). But I used the duplicolor bed armor roll on bed liner and painted it on with a small paint brush. I put about 2 coats on it.

Took the grille off the truck. Flipped it over and removed the criss cross part. Scuffed with light grit and blasted about 4-5 coats of satin black rust oleum.

I'm plastidipping my grill right now the only prep work I did on was jut wipe off the dirt and clean it with some too gone wipes the paint is going on with no issues

 

I plastidipped mine to and it looks awesome really brings the front end together. It's awesome just clean and spray, I did three coats with one can. I'll get some pics sometime this week she's covered in mud right now so....

 

I did 4 layers with one can. Does high pressure water effect it in anyway

 

You will rip plasti dip up with high pressure water. I had 10 Coats on the eclipse, had to hand wash and rinse. (Btw. 10 coats of plasti dip on a car takes around 18 cans... if anyone is feeling frisky.)

 

Thanks a lot for the tip, it's gonna suck washing my truck now, ak ain't to hand wash friendly even in the summer.
