Default Check engine light

Hey Folks,

Last night my check engine light came on. Odometer is 42300 kms. I am wondering if this could just be a checkup or something wrong. Truck is running fine. Planning to call the dealer later but just wanted some things I could check. I did check the gas cap first thing.

If you can, go to a local auto store and borrow a code reader and plug it into your OBDII port and see what shows up. It could be a simple fix that will cost you $$$ at the dealer. If you have a tuner you can read it with that.

Yes, defiinitely find an auto parts store that will read the code for you. Dealer will charge you $$$ just to hook up a scan tool. You could also disconnect the battery for a half hour or so and then see if the code comes back.

08,

If you go to an auto store and you get the code, post it here and we can look it up for you.

If it is running fine, I wouldn't doubt that it is a fuel system thing, Vaccum or Vapor related.

Thanks everyone. I do still have warranty on my truck so I am sure it will be covered. But maybe I could take it into a shop. If I disconnect battery, do I loose my radio settings?

Hey Folks,

Just an update. Yesterday decided to bring the truck into the dealer. They are going to scan it and give me a call. They assured me it would be covered under my power train warranty. I will let you know what the issue was. Thanks for the great suggestions.

EDIT: Just received a call from the dealer and they found it to be the Emission Control Module. They are replacing it under warranty. Truck wont be ready until tomorrow.. Had to order the part.
