i just bought some new lowering shackles for my 05 dakota. there by superior automotive i need as much info on them before i tare apart my rear end. the pt #is 13-4100, has anyone used them before or ones simular to these.

 

Jack out up from the pumpkin. Set the truck on jack stands at the frame in front of the axle to relieve the pressure, remove the bolts.

 

yea like kent said, or you can jack up the pumpkin to lift the truck then use stands somewhere other than the axle and then release the jack on the axle so the wheels are just barely touching the ground, unbolt the old, then lift the axle a bit for the longer shackles, bolt it back up with the new ones and you're good to go.

If you have rust swell on the bolts, it's going to be really fun to remove them... and it's a little tricky to get the bolts back on with the new shackles with the frame in the way, I fiddled with the jack a bit until the shackle was a bit above the frame so there was clearance to put the bolt back on.

The flat side of the shackle should face the back of the truck, if the shackles you bought have a small hole drilled in them, it's for a zerk fitting so you can grease the bushing.

Removing the spare tire before you start will help a lot in case things get tough.

Here's some good shocks made for sport trucks, they are shorter for lowered trucks. Stock length shocks are fine for just 2" shackles, but I bought these anyways and I like them.

got mine from www.canuckmotorsports.com came with installation instructions, I f I remember, we installed the shakle onto the spring before the frame, using a floor jack the install was about 20 minutes, but make sure you soak the bolts before removing them, or you may ruin them

Is that still your best time sprayin? What other mods have you made if any?

 

so it looks as though im shooting for the hole at the end of the shackle, the one furthest the ilet with the bushing, for the max drop, am i correct.

 

yep. use that one for the full claimed 2 inches.

 

im soaking the hell out of the bolts right now for about a day. ill put the shackles on tomorrow i noticed what feels like a hex style shaped hole on the top bolt is that a hex or 6pt insert socket.

 

just count the number of sides the bolt-head has..I would assume it isnt a hex socket. Not too common on domestic vehicles

 

It's a Torx bit, you don't need to touch it though because the bolt also has a place to put a socket on the end of it. So just use a wrench on the nut and a small socket on the end of the bolt and you're good to go.

I recall, actually, needing to use the torx bit just to break the bolt free. But the same can be accomplished with the small socket.
