When I first started looking around at options the first thing the shops looked at was the MTX Proform. All said it doesn't fit. I stayed away from the Infinity's as I find the tweets to be harsh and you get no bass from the mids. Have to have some bass in the front stage. For now I'm using the on-board amp to power the comps. Where are you mounting your amp(s)? Going to mount mine behind the rear seats. No room under them unless it is a really small amp. Will install a distro block to make it easier to add an amp for the comps when I replace the HU down the road. Good luck with the sub install. Cool if it does fit.

Well...I got the MTX Thunderform sitting here, but haven't gotten a chance to see if it fits yet. Been snowing like crazy here in Michigan.
In my '04 Dakota that I had the Thunderform in....I just put the amp underneath the bottom part of the seat. Since the seat won't be able to flip up with the Thunderform there...I just put it underneath it and it cleared fine. And it shouldn't be a problem at all to clear the seat in the '05 since now there is a little lip for storage underneath the seat. That's IF the Thunderform fits though.
As for the Infinity setup...the tweeters aren't too bad. I just turned down the treble on the head unit.
But you're right about the speakers...they don't give much bass. But I won't care about that once I get my sub setup installed...cuz that'll provide the right amount of bass for me.
But yeah...I still gotta get some pics of everything installed and I'll post if the Thunderform fits or if it doesn't.

Cool. You in lower Michigan or da U.P.? My wife is a Uuper. Installed the Pheonix Gold Comps the other day. What a pain. Now I know why shops charge $65/hr for labor. What a difference they make though. Have the mid & treble turned way down where the stock needed it turned way up. I'm sure this is attributed to the factory amp. Will be ordering an RE8 on the 5th. Only $50 to the door. It will handle 175rms and only requires a .3cf sealed box. Should be enough considering where it will be situated. If not then I'll do a Kicker L5 @300rms! Hope it quits snowing and warms a little for you so you can get that sub installed. Nothing like a good sharp kick drum poundin you in the back of the head during the commute.
Good luck.

Nah...I'm not in the U.P.
I'm in Southeast Michigan. Supposed to warm up today, Sunday, to like 45 or something. And then on Monday 57 degrees, but rainy. So HOPEFULLY I can try and see if it'll fit on one of those days.
IF it does fit....I already got a JL Audio W1v2 10" sub to fit in the box and replace the crappy MTX 4500 sub that came in it. And like I said....if it don't fit then I'm just gonna have the local car audio shop just make me box for behind the seat.
What's an RE8???
Are you getting a box made, or do you have one?
Will an L5 fit behind the seat in a box?? (depth issues?) I ask because there is only like 7-8" behind the seat at the bottom and it gets narrow really quick towards the top.
I suppose you have the Infinity system??
I didn't have a problem installing my door speakers though....just pop the panels off drop them in and put the panel back on. But I've probably done it like 5 times on a Dakota though.
Anyways...I need some bass!!!!

Evening Snobrdrdan,
Glad too hear it'll warm up for you a bit. The cold sucks. Especially in da U.P. this time of the year. I do have the Infinity system. RE stands for Resonant Engineering. Think they are out of Nevada. Rapidly growing small company. Have heard a lot of good things about them. Their 8" RE sub is 4 ohm DVC and will do 175 rms and 325 peak. As a member of their forum I can get in on a group buy that starts 12/5. Can get an RE8 for $50 to the door ea and can order as many as I want. I will build the box(sealed) for it and place it between the center console and the rear seat. The back of the box will have a leg that will sit in the rear cup holders. It will only be 10" sq by 9' tall. Only .3 cf before bracing. .290 cf is the optimum size for that sub according to WINISD. Nice little SQ setup. Should have less than $400 into the upgrades when done. Serious budget action.

Well good news....
The MTX Thunderform fits the 2005 Dakota Quad Cabs!!!!!! Dropped right in
I knew everything looked the same on the back seat (brackets), and this confirmed it!
Gonna drop the JL Sub in the box tomorrow morning and hook up the amp connections and I should be bumpin'....can't wait!

Now for the Subwoofer setup....
MTX Thunderform for the Dakota Quad Cab:

First test to see that it fit:

MTX Sub versus the new JL Audio Sub:

Sub box, sub, & grille installed in truck (just slides right into place) & then the seat back bolts back on over it:

Amp is hidden underneath the bottom of the 40 part (of the 60/40) seat (40 seat is flipped up in pic):

Nice clean looking install dude. How does it sound? I love JL Audio stuff but way out of my range. I ended up going with a Kicker S8L5 4ohm DVC. Only cost $90 to the door and has factory warranty to boot. Couldn't pass that up! Now I need to get a box built and wire everything up.
