I read a few posts of guys doing the swap on durangos and the 2wd switch worked as AWD and the 4hi and 4lo worked the same as before. I would eventually get the right switch pate after confirming it worked.

Durango t-cases are a dime a dozen, but I am more concerned about that being a bold up to my manually transmission.

I didn't consider that, but the driveshafts appear to be the same from the parts manual on the different types. It is also my understanding that physically the outer case shell is identical, it is some sort of universal/planetary (i think thats the right term) gear on the inside that is different.

I really hope you're able to do this. I think it would be great for your purpose.

Do either of you know if someone beefs up these AWD cases to handle tougher jobs?

I think the Jeep Cherokee 4.7 tcase might go along with the Durango as well.

I have been looking at quite a few vendors and have yet to see anything other than OEM rebuilds. I would be game for a something stronger than the stock HD units.

So you seem to think the Durango and Jeeps cases would be drop in as well?

It's hard to say, I can only rely on my belief that Chrysler has VERY little imagination to come up with different stuff for every vehicle.

The cases are pretty stout as is. I don't see a 4.7 being able to blow one up unless you were pushing some really big tires.

Our tranny(auto) is the same as whats in the Ram 1500 with Hemi's. Could be that a t-case from a Hemi would bolt up, might need the input swapped for a manual tranny.

Drivetrain.com has different part numbers for the 244 in different vehicles:

I wonder what the differences are, spline counts look the same, some have different input shaft lengths.
