Transfer Case Spline count and input length
Does anyone have a t-case removed from their 3rd gen truck that could send spline counts for the input and output, and shaft length? Part numbers would be great if you have them.
The part numbers for the propeller shaft between the transfer case and the front differential are...
52105982AC - ELECTRIC SHIFT-ON-THE-FLY PARTTIME TRANSFER CASE
521 23198AA - ELECTRIC SHIFT-ON-THE-FLY PARTTIME TRANSFER CASE
521 23199AA - AWD, ELECTRIC SHIFT,TWO SPEED TRANSFER CASE
I can't see what the difference between the last two are though. Are these what you are looking for? or are you looking for the Mainshaft inside the transfer case?
BTW just noticed you are close by, nice to see another "local"or I guess semi local!

Ya, i see you are from lemoyne, i drive from lancaster to mechanicsburg every day so i often spend time in your neck of the woods. I will be the all chrysler show in carlisle this summer. maybe ill catch you there!
123 hehe
I am looking to swap from the 233 to the 244, and I took a good look at those parts as well. Searches didn't yield any useful info. My concern is that i have the getrag 6spd, and that the input from the auto may be different. I wanted to see if i can find a solid answer before dropping a few hundred on parts...

I am going to try an make it this year if all these damn weddings and such dont prohibit me.
Its a good time. I'' keep that in mind. So I am guess you work for the Naval Support? You can PM me if you'd prefer to communicate that way. I work out of Mechanicsburg too
You might be able to swap t-case input shafts.
I've swapped AWD and 4wd t-cases in older Jeeps quite a bit(late 90s). Chrysler at that time used 3 different input shafts on their t-cases that had varied lengths and spline counts depending on whether you were stick/auto and V8 or 6 cylinder.
Good news is that the input shafts were interchangable. So you could rip apart an NP249 tcase(AWD) and put the shaft from it into a NP231(4wd) case or vice versa.
This is a writeup I did with pics that shows what swapping inputs is like. I pulled the input shaft from a NP249(AWD) and put it into a NP242(AWD with a 2wd setting). Yours would be different but not that much.

THe one thing I did need to be carefull of was that over the years the gear pitch changed. So its best to use a t-case as close in year as possible to the one you already have.
This is just my experience on Jeep t-cases. I don't know for sure it will work but being they are NP t-cases chances are good.
Besides I want you to try it and if it works I might do it to our Dak.

I saw the other thread and was disappointed that it got screwed up and closed.
Glad you to see you are persevering.
Any idea about the electrical side if it? All the ones I have done were manual shift. Do you think the truck will see the the AWD position as what was once the 2wd position and just work normally?
What about a Durango t-case? Those should work as well.
Oh yeah, don't forget to check the length of the t-case. Some of the swaps I did the t-cases were longer to accommodate the AWD differential. This can mean different lengths of driveshafts, shorter rear/longer front.
