Default replacing electriical outlet/cigarette outlet in dodge dakota 2005

does anyone know how to get into and replace the electrical outlet in a dodge dakota 2005, aka cigarette outlet. I tried replacing the fuse which didn't seem to work, and so i looked around my dash to see if there was a way to get back there and take the outlet out. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

2 screws under the middle plate. Use a stub Phillips screw driver. After you get those out the middle piece pops out. Careful of the electrical connections to the air bag light and other various components.

Right above that back cubby in this picture.

Two screws on the very bottom of the radio bezel. Then just tug gently to get the snaptite clips unhooked, very top will have two tabs that get hung up a bit so you'll need to flex it a bit to get them to clear.

Getting the outlet out is a bit tricky. Once you unplug it, you'll see two metal tabs, don't bend those, you won't need to. You will also see two black plastic tabs, don't bend those yet either. Inside of the outlet are two tiny black tabs, those are the ones you want to press outward, with a baby screwdriver or something. Pressing those will let you slide the blue part a bit, then you can press in the black tabs on the outside and slide the whole blue part through the metal part. Then all you need to do is turn the metal part and pull it out.

It's easier than it sounds.

Thanks folks. Those instructions helped out alot. that outlet hasn't been working for several months, so I managed to get in there just like you said and replaced it. Unfortunately its still not working. I think maybe the electrical line or something might have gotten fried. So I might have to take it into the dealership to have the electrical system looked at. Unless you can give me any other advice that might help me in fixing this. But again. steps you gave were extremely helpful.

I think I remember some guys saying that there are two positions for the cig lighter fuse, one for keyed switch and one for always on. if that's true then you could try the other position to see if that makes a difference.

Hopefully someone will confirm this..

If that doesn't work, me personally, I would try running a new line, there are some vacant places in the fusebox, 58 for instance is heated seats, but if you don't have heated seats then you could use that one. But there are some others. I haven't done it before, and it's more in-depth than replacing that power plug, but I can't see it being too hard. It would save you a trip to the stealership and that's always good.

Why do you want ot replace it? You dont state it is not working, only that replacing the fuse "did not work". Did not work for what? If the outlet it is not working how are you determining this? Do you have a meter to check it with or are you just plugging something into it and whatever you are plugging in does not work? There is a fuse that has two positions that make the outlet always on or only on when the truck is running, have you tried to power whatever it is your plugging in to it with the truck running also? A little more info would help narrow this down.

Hey Guys. Im the biggest Idiot. I didn't realize that there were 2 slots for the power outlet. As soon as I replaced the correct fuse it started working again. Yeah Jkeaton it stopped working sorry about that. i was trying to replace the fuse on slot 28 when I should have been replacing it for the other one that was switchable which was several slots down. I wasn't paying attention. Thank you guys and FrenicX thank you for pointing that out to me. you just saved me 150 bucks!

Default power outlet 05 dakota doesn't work

hello, I just purchased an 05 dakota slt. I didn't realize that the power outlet doesn't work. I checked fuse 28, which looks fine. Somewhere on this forum, someone mentioned that there is another fuse that someone checked because 28 was fine, but they never mentioned which fuse. Can anyone assist in figuring this out? I tried to use plug-ins in the outlet both, with and without the engine working. nothing.
Thank you

Check fuse # 22, and it can be switched to either run hot at all times, or hot with ignition on only.
