Try it, worst it'll do is leak back out and kill a couple polar bears if that's your problem, or it maybe the compressor. Can you hear if the compressor is kicking on? I don't remember but did you switch to an E Fan?

no efan. polar bears are soooo violent, so lets not kill them haha... but I dont hear the compressor kicking in. I'm assuming it such sound like vacuum sound, but I don't hear anything different, from normal air to a/c

Compressor is belt driven, pop the hood and turn the a/c on with the truck running and see if it turns on. Compressor is upper right acc on motor when looking at it. It might not turn on with no freeon in the system.

If it was a refrigerant leak, my experience is that you generally notice a decrease in A/C performance over time, not all of a sudden. (I assume your A/C just suddenly stopped working?) But since the compressor clutch stopped engaging, that would obviously be the starting point, and there has to be something causing that.

The system should be at low pressure with the compressor not turning, so my estimation is that either A) the pressure transducer is failing to send a low-pressure signal to the PCM (bad transducer), B) the A/C clutch relay isn't switching (bad relay), or C) the A/C clutch is receiving the correct signal, but isn't engaging (bad clutch).

If it was me, I would start with the relay.

Filling it will keep you happy for a short period of time and then you will be back where you are now...people do it all the time though. The reason the a/c does not work is because there is a leak and you need to fix the leak prior to filling it with new refrigerant (unless of course it is a mechanical problem such as the compressor clutch). Anyways, my point is people always think that putting new R134A in the system will magically fix it..and for some people it does. You pay $50-100 to charge the system and your set for the summer. It slowly leaks and then by the time it is summer again your A/C system has no pressure. Point of the story is, find out what component failed or where your leak is you can use dye and a black light..that method works pretty well

That doesn't work all the time. My truck's A/C doesn't work half the time and my A/C system is at OEM pressure. I just haven't gotten around to tinkering around in the engine bay to find out what's wrong with it.

Like 06Dak said, if you refill it...its going to leak again... Freon / Refrigerant etc, doesnt just disappear. If you need to recharge the system, youve got a leak somewhere, or something isnt working whether it be your compressor condenser or evaporator. You need to find out if the AC system is holding pressure, or if the freon is leaking out of the system.
