Angry Stupid gas gauge

Hello there. Well have had this problem before, except it alway fixes it self. Now its acting up. The gas gauge goes to E when i know it is full. Check engine light is on. i tried a long time ago buying a new gas cap and that didn't really do much. So i went back to the old one. Now its acting up. Any suggestions?

Scan it, or have it scanned for an OBD code, and go from there.

Let us know the code. Something may be wrong with your pump or pump-related in the tank.

There have been several guys here who say our daks don't like after market gascaps, and the only way to fix a gascap issue is with an oem cap from dodge. That being said, was your replacement cap after market?

Only problem I've had with my gascap is it pops of sometimes. Like cold nights, go out to start it in the morning, cap is off. Happens once or twice a year.

When I bought my truck it had an aftermarket cap on it which started throwing codes over time, got a new one from the dealer and never had another code. Also "gas cap pops off?" I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure the gas cap is supposed to vent, I know for damn sure the fuel system vents if your gas cap is popping off something's not right.

I had a similar problem with my '05. The gauge would start out at the halfway mark, for instance. Then, as I drove, it would continue to creep up, reaching 3/4 or full after an hour or so of driving. Funny part is that IIRC the DTE indicator on the overhead display was giving a reasonable miles estimate to empty.

Just for kicks, I ran a bottle of Techron through it and the problem cleared up!
