What's the offset on those, negative 25? Sounds like trouble there...You'll need a wide a$$ tire to fill out those wheels.

Centerbore on the Dakota is 77.8mm, so a new wheel needs a larger size than that. And hub rings to allow the new wheels to sit centered on your hub are a good idea.

I noticed most people with rear blocks have 1.5". Would there be any problems putting in a 2" rear block? I'm assuming not since its a marginal difference but still a question pondering in my mind. Thank you in advance!

255/85/16 is a 33" tire, too tall to fit.

And nobody is running a 235/85/16 tire, a tire so slim it could only fit on the narrow steel wheels.

Hi, been gone for a while and my jmr lift kit has been sitting in boxes for a year. I know crazy. The plan is to get started this week to finally get it installed. So my Dakota is a 2006 SLT V8 with stock 17x8 wheels the chrome ones. does anybody know the offset and backset of these stock wheels. been searching for hours. Also, trying to figure out how far my new wheels will stick out. Planning on getting 18x9 wheels with a 4.5 inch backset that has a -12 offset recommended by jmr as to not rub anything. The tires are gonna be 33x12.5. I was thinking if my stock wheels have a 5 inch backset and jmr says that to run these stock rims you need a 1.5 inch wheel spacer to clear everything. So if I ran the stock tires with the spacers would they stick out 1.5 inches more. I was trying to figure out if adding 1.5 spacers to my stock rims am I essentially making them into a 4.5 inch backset. I'm ordering the new set and don't want it to stick way out as we have laws in my province, I'm guessing around 2 inches would be okay. Thanks, hope not to confusing. any help would be great!

Your stock wheels have an offset of 25.44mm, which gives you a backspace of 5.5 inches. So the new 17x9, offset -12mm wheels will stick out 1 1/2 inches more that your stock stance. So your new offset will be 4 1/2 inches.

Now if you add a 1" spacer to the stock wheels, (Whether wheel spacers are good or bad is another debate.), you'll move the wheel out one inch, giving you the 4 1/2 backspace that you're looking for. The reason that the 17x9 wheels will stick out 1 1/2 inches more from stock stance, is the extra 1 inch of wheel width, one half inch inside & outside.

Great thanks for that. Yes was thinking of using the stock wheels and adding the spacer but as you said there is a debate on whether to use them or not. So i am just going to get the wheels with the correct backset and not have to worry about spacers. If the tires stick out too far I can always get the fender flares like yours. looks good! Where did you get them?

As far as the 255/85 go's, I know it's a 33" but was wondering because of how narrow it is that maybe it would fit.... but ill save that for after I get a body lift...

And the 235/85 not only fits but also does fit on my stock rims just fine and looks good!

You need to choose your backspacing carefully, no more than 4.5". Keep in mind, I run 285/75/16s with a 2" leveling kit and NO body lift. My wheels have a 4.5" backspacing and I ever so slightly get rub on the frame rails at full lock.
why cant you go more than 4.5? I found some that are 4.99 with an offset of 12. ill be running 285-75-16 with a 3in body and 2 in leveling kit would this be doable?
