I got the K&N on my 4.7 and realized 1+mpg w/ 75%+hwy. Then I lost it when in city when i realized how cool it sounded. worth every penny, since it is engineered for the truck.

we are talking about drop in air filters which usually run about $54 from K&N (like you just bought)..not the full intakes with a tube/heat shield which retail around $300. but the drop in filter is a good mod and definitely worth it

I had the drop in k&N filter on my red and now on my grey truck. (shoulda took my filter out of my old truck when i wrecked it) Both are awesome filters. Kinda saw a little bit better performance, but its nothing to write home about. Id like to get something like the airaid JR kit that uses the stock air box, but just removes that big "box resonator" on the top of the motor.

I have the full intake, and my ram air hood would not be functional with the closed box. The heat shield/shroud with the K&N works nicely with my hoods intake port.

I have that setup currently..really recommend it. I just want to swap out the tube that runs from the fender to the airbox

I guess us 3.7 guys can't get the modular tube Unless the 4.7 one works?

honestly you won't get much more power at all(or notice like hammer said), but mpg is a miss or hit i think. I'm not sure how different the v6's and v8's are, but usually you drive faster when a new intake is in so your mpg goes down. But 1st thing i would do is remove all resonators, both intake and exhaust. i got 2+ mpg when i took out all the resonators and a new pipe from the cat back. drop in aem didn't do much, but i didn't remove the intake resonator yet, you could also go cone there are some on ebay if you want that route for cheap. you want to do the cheapest first, so look at the intake area..i got a new pipe(cat back), exhuast(delta 40) and removed all resonators for $175 total with a turn down pipe, don't know if thats a good price but thats a number you can think about.

-also if you want a good sound, you can talk to a muffler shop and they should know what sounds good or not on certain vehicles. i know the flowmaster delta 40's and 44's sound good, but i've only listened on v8's.

on a related side note, Why is it 100 bucks+ for a piece of HDPE tube from Airraid that goes from the stock air-box to the intake... I just don't get that.

I just might get a PVC pipe or one of the 30 dollar ones and modify the tube to work

eBay infuriates me

we've all seen it, most pointless thing they ever made..maybe $50 but $100?? hell no. Either pvc, or get a nice 90degree metal elbow pipe and cut it to spec. thats my plan. That with a nice drop in will do just fine.
