Default need front strut info

Hi, I have an 07 Dakota crew cab automatic, I need to replace my front struts, what is the recommended brand and model to use. I do not do any off roading if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum. You got 3 choices basically, OEM (don't do it), Monroe (little stiffer than stock) or Rancho (much stiffer than stock). Many opinions on the 2 aftermarket ones. I personally run the Monroe's and I love them. Any other ?'s, don;t be afraid to ask! Aa word of advice, while your in the front end, check your ball joints, tie rods and sway bar links. Those are known failure points on these trucks. Replace with quality aftermarket parts (Moog). Most of us use Rock Auto.

Yeah, either Monroe, part # 71100, or Rancho, part # RS5757.

I'm on the Ranchos and love them. Whichever choice any member here chooses, they will recommend it for sure.

To find the Rancho strut, put 2005 Dakota to see the part number. Most sites only show the Rancho # RS5757 when you put in 2005. Don't know why that is, but it's always been like that.
And it will fit your 07 for sure.

The Ranchos are usually about $10 or $20 more than the Monroes.

The Monroes are only $83.07 each here with free shipping.

Edit:
Monroes are only $73 each here with free shipping. (Best price ever,I think.) Plus, use code AFQ21205 for $5 off.

The Ranchos are $98.54
each here"><span style=each here" /> each here">each here
with free shipping.

That was just a quick search, you may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere.

Another option is the Monroe Quickstrut which I put on mine. It's a fully loaded strut.
4WD - 171100
RWD - 271100

like dakotaff i went with rancho struts..boy what a difference. Even if you don't offroad either monroe or rancho is great, they will just last longer(in theory since no heavy use). They are pia to get on so be ready

Do you have to replace the spring as well?, have not had to change these out before, the Monroe quick strut has the spring and strut in one set, or just change out the strut? Looking at the Monroe sensa trac strut 71100 and the Rancho rs5757 series, the Rancho looks like its a heaver strut. Also, the Monroe 71100 is listed as 2 wheel drive, I have a 4x4, will it still work? And this is most likely a personal preference question, which is the better strut, the Monroe or the Rancho?

No you don't have to replace the spring if there's nothing wrong with them. I personally liked having it all in one and brand spankin' new. 71100 is for both according to Monroe's website. If you're just looking to get rid of bounce anything other than OEM will work.
