still stalling...
So ive been having trouble lately with my truck stalling, it happens randomly at all speeds and under all conditions. Sometimes it sputters and hangs around 500 rpm and other times it just cuts out like i turned the key off. On the highway it feels like it wont shift into overdrive and revs between 2500 and 3000 at 65 mph. Ive taken it to dodge and first they thought it was the key so they reprogrammed it and it still stalls. It stalled on the way home from the dealer actually. So i took it back to them and they said they scanned codes and found ASD relay and a code for a cam sensor. The only thing is my brother changed the cam sensor for me a week earlier. They said they found a short and it needed to be rewired. Im very leery of this dealership because they tried to sell me on about 10 maintanence items that i knew werent anywhere near needed. My brothers a mechanic so hes going to look at it this week but any ideas on whats causing this? any help would be much appreciated
^^^What he said. Could take it to a different dealership... I took it to a dealer for mine and supposedly they replaced just the cam sensor, but it took them a long time because they needed to make sure the wiring was okay.
Does anyone have any suggestions here? My brother has spent alot of time on it, even calling in several other mechanics to look at it and they havent been able to find anything. Were kinda lost here now, the truck runs great just shuts off while driving. Any help would be much appreciated
1. Did your brother change both cam sensors? (I think we have 2)
Have you tried adding some Dielectric grease to the connections to help with the connection and corrosion?
2. When was the last time you cleaned the throttle body (really clean it, by taking off and cleaning the snot out of it)?
3. When was the last time you cleaned the IAC?
4. When was the last time you cleaned the Throttle Position sensor?
5. When was the last time you checked your battery terminals?
6. Have you checked your vacuum lines for a leak?

Art,
I found this that may possibly help with your issue. The dealer can refer to it by the case number. I also included repair procedure in case your brother is going to test this out. Hope it helps. Post back with the results.
Case Number: S1218000003
Release Date: 01-27-2012
Symptom/Vehicle Issue:
Customer may experience a die out, stall condition at any speed while driving or while at a stop. The engine usually restarts right away on a crank attempt. The symptoms may also be described as the engine appearing to lose power with a report that it restarts by itself. They may also be described as a missing, bucking or hesitation. Symptoms may also be accompanied by a MIL on with DTCs set. The actual DTCs may vary, however P0688 - ASD Relay Sense Circuit Low is usually set in PCM with possible power-up-at-speed or loss of communication DTCs set in various modules.
Diagnosis:
The only sure way to diagnose this condition is to capture the event with the data recorder. Graphs of some or all pcm data items during the event will usually indicate a loss of pcm "consciousness" or
communication represented in blank data for a given time on the graph.
The duration of time that the data is missing or the actual data itself that drops out is not consistent and can happen on one or more data items, but not necessarily all.
Repair Procedure:
If the above conditions are present, inspect all spark plugs and coils for damage, signs of arcing or other abnormalities. If nothing is noticeable, replace all spark plugs and retest for the condition. If the condition is still present, start by replacing one coil. If the condition is still present, continue moving that new coil around to the other cylinders to substitute for the other coils in a process of elimination until the condition is no longer present. Replace the last coil that was substituted for just prior to the elimination of the condition.
NOTE: BE SURE REPLACEMENT SPARK PLUGS ARE O.E.M. THERE HAVE BEEN INSTANCES WHERE AFTERMARKET PLUGS ARE MARKEDLY DIFFERENT THAN OEM SPARK PLUGS. CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN DURING SPARK PLUG INSTALLATION TO REDUCE THE CHANCE OF DAMAGE TO ANY PLUG INSTALLED AND TO KEEP NEW PLUG INSULATORS CLEAN.

Just curious what people have done to actually fix this stalling problem on their trucks. In the time I've been on this forum, I've seen several reports of random stalling, but can't recall any follow up on what anyone has done to actually fix the problem. I do remember someone posting something about PCM wiring being corroded. Anyone else have an issue with that?
My truck has occasionally stalled, but not enough to concern me yet. It did it twice the other day though so I'll see where that goes. So far now three times this year. It would be nice to have some follow ups on this issue though as it seems to be quite common.

Thank you dodgecares! The spark plugs were the problem after all. My brother instlled Bosch super greens and they caused the problem. He ordered plugs from dodge and received Bosch super blacks, they had an extra AA on the serial number. I experienced every symptom on that report from dodge and this cleared it all up. Thanks alot!
