TD;LR - Truck gets to 229F engine temp when climbing long, large hills, with 4500 lbs trailer. Normal otherwise
Here's what I have:
-2006 Dodge Dakota TRX4, 4.7L HO, QUAD CAB, 3.92 gears, AWD!
-My trailer is a 2007 Surveyor 192T, dry weight of 3500 lbs. So I'm assuming it's roughly 4500 lbs loaded.
-Truck is rated to tow 7000 lbs.
When it's 68 degrees F outside, and the air conditioning is off, the truck while towing stays anywhere between 204F and 215F. When going up big hills, for a long period of time, it sometimes goes to 220F.
When it's 85+F outside, and the air conditioning is off. The truck will stay between 215F and 220F, and on large, long hills, it goes up to 229F, then immediately come back down to less then 220 at the crest of the hill.
With the air conditioning on, and driving, it's always around 215F, and climbs to 229F on LARGE LONG hills. But usually stays between 215 and 218, cept for hills.
When im not towing, truck stays at 200 - 204. Even when it's 90F outside
Is this normal for this truck, towing 4500 lbs? 229F is only 1/3rd past the half mark on the guage. I used a scan gauge to get exact numbers.
Thoughts?
