Well, I cleaned every sensor up there and the inside of the throttle body itself and still no dice. I guess time to start replacing sensors?

We do have a MAP though, which monitors pressure instead of flow and basically accomplishes the same task. Doubt that's the problem though, it would throw a code I'm sure.

Cam positioning sensor is in bank 2 (passenger side) near cylinder 2, on the underside of the head.

But I agree, I lean toward the IAC. Sometimes they get really dirty, the lubrication in there gets gummed up and things start sticking. Sometimes it will go back to normal after the truck fully warms up. It's basically a bypass valve that lets air through the throttle body when the butterfly is closed, if it sticks, it may stay open too far and let too much air through, thus a higher idle.

Dimes, it might be best to actually take the sensors out to clean them. There is a lot that you might not be able to get to especially with the IAC valve, it has it's own little chamber.

But more idle issues are caused by a bad sensor, but mostly on our truck, a dirty sensor.

4 possible senors. Could be only one, could be all 4

1. Throttle position sensor needs cleaning - (located in throttle body)
2. IAC (idle air control) needs cleaning - (located in throttle body)
3. IAT (intake air temp) needs cleaning (located in air intake tube)
4. Cam position sensor needs replacing. (located on the end of the engine)

You probably have a dirty IAC <--- my vote
oops i feel dumb now, so that resistor inside the resonator before the tb is the iat then? i need to read over our intake system now

Would it be easier to get to that if I take the throttle body out?

You would be best taking the throttle body off and removing the throttle position sensor, and the IAC and cleaning the snot out of all the chambers.

If you just want to clean the IAC and see if that helps, no reason to pull off the throttle body, just unplug, and remove the 1 screw holding it in place, and then well... good luck those suckers get really jammed in, might need to carefully use some channel locks and slowly twist and back and forth till it comes out. It is just pressed in and pulls straight out.

Default Dont waste your time and money the problem is this

Most of the time this problem is related to the lower intake gasket leaking and everything alse that everyone is trying to do wont work ....a intake gasket leak wont even set a engine code most of the time ....all treads related to high idle 1500 rpm or even higher has to do with a mayor air leak especially after the TB ....changing the planum gasket would be the only way to fix it ....good luck!
