You will find it very difficult to find any sawzall blade that will cut those bolts easily. An angle grinder with a thin cut-off wheel is, in my opinion, the best - just watch for kickback and protect your face.

When you have the bolts out, use a good amount of anti-seize compound on the bolt and bushing to prevent the problem in the future - all those bolts need to be rust free for the front end to work properly and for alignments.

The boots aren't hard to change, you may need to get a CV banding tool to re-install the bands (clamps). Getting to the boot might be difficult, depending on which CV you're talking about - drive shaft or axle CV? In either case, you shouldn't have fluid coming out - I would guess that you might have a seal starting to leak & you might want to think about changing that at the same time since you would have everything exposed to do the seal job.

I guess I should have been clearer, it is a thick grease that is slowly oozing out... kinda like melted french silk pie.

I may have to try to do the bicycle tire patch for now and buy me some time( after I add some more grease) The problem is the hole is so small I can't find it with my fingers

About getting the bolt lushed through. I used a sawzall to cut the end of the bolt off and between pb blaster, propane torch and a air hammer i forced it out.. Too bad in the midst of doing the other side my air compressor took a dump... That was one expensive job

Anyone ever try using Zep-45 on these strut bolts? Expensive. ($12 a can) but makes PB look like crap.
Thankfully my '06 doesn't need struts yet. And after reading how much fun it is to get these darn things apart, Yea, I'll have a can of zep handy when the time comes.

Hey DM. How many miles on your truck? Re-manufactured shafts are only about $70 outta O'Reilly's. Gonna have the beast apart to replace the boot anyway.

101560 on the truck... so fairly up there.

So I went to the dollar store yesterday, got a bag or pipe-cleaners and shop rags and cleaned the boot off. Then I wrapped a towel arounda pipecleaner and snugly put it in the groove that had the pinhole leak...

No more fluid beign slung everywhere!! that was a 2 dollar temporary fix.

I am going to get some RTV and rubber on it this weekend, after I fill it with some grease.

Only 101k? Aww heck. Ain't even hardly half used yet. LoL..

I asked cause replacing the boot can be a messy, pain in the rear. But might be worth the hassle at that mileage depending on how much off road play it's seen.

Reman'd Shafts are fairly inexpensive. (When you figure in the amount of time it takes to pull them out) Replacing it means you'll have that much more time before you need to knock the front end apart again. So check the CV joints carefully.
