I've looked everywhere I can think of and I didn't know where else to turn. So, here I am.
I'm trying to find out what kind of differential I have in my truck. My truck is 4WD so I figured at least a limited slip. But when I powerbrake it, even for extended periods of time, like 5 seconds or more, only one tire will spin. And if I gun it from a stop and it's wet outside and the tires spin for 5 seconds or more, it still only spins one.
Is there any way to find out what differential I have in there?

Jack up the back end, put it in neutral with the brake off, and turn one wheel by hand. If the other wheel turns the same direction, it's a limited-slip. If it turns the opposite direction, it's open (which it sounds like).

 

Most of these trucks came without a limited slip, it was an option but not standard. Unfortunately, having 4x4 does not equate to having a LSD in the rear.

 

So it probably has an open diff?

 

Pm me your VIN, and I'll post your build sheet. It sure sounds like an open differential though.

I'm not sure what all the letters at the beginning of each listing mean, but apparently someone bought this truck with the intention of towing.

 

The letters are just package IDs, basically, that Chrysler uses or used at one time.
