Default Next Generation Controller (NGC) fyi

I was wondering what next generation controller meant on my build sheet found this, good info.

Next Generation Controller (NGC)
A powertrain controller consolidating both engine and automatic transmission controllers into one component. Designed by Chrysler engineers, it provides better coordination between engine and transmission functions for excellent performance.
The electronic architecture is substantially different from previous Chrysler controllers and is designed to expand technical capabilities in the future.

It's one DME that controls the whole powertrain so everything the transmission does is based off of what the engine does. Probably makes a much smoother ride and better response to throttle and brake

What years are covered by this controller & is it backwards compatible for the 3rd Gen Dakota?

My truck is a 2005 and my build sheet says that I have the "NZDS Next Generation Engine Controller", but I don't know if it works or is any different from the one that mulie4x4 has on his truck.

So if I have the 2009 Dakota that means I do have this feature?

It is pretty much a hyped up name for your engine's computer. The "next generation" naming convention started with the 4.7L engine's debut, if I recall correctly, in the 2002-2003 (ish) time frame.

If you have the 4.7L V8 in any third generation Dakota (2005+), you have this "feature". If you have the 3.7L V6, not sure. Maybe someone who has a V6 engine and their build sheet can chime in here.

I looked at a few build sheets, and it's on all of the 3rd Gen Dakotas.
