ok guys finally got the codes that it threw... i got a p0700, p0734 and a p0735 it said 4th and 5th gear failure... any ideas where to start?

 

P0700 - Transmission control system malfunction
P0734 - Gear 4 incorrect ratio
P0735 - Gear 5 incorrect ratio

First thing I would do is disconnect the battery for awhile to clear the codes, verify my fluid is not burnt (pull dipstick and have a look/smell). and drive it some more. If it throws those codes again, I'd be taking it to a shop.

 

ya my fluid is perfect. i reset it and it has stayed off but its not shifting into 4th or 5th. i think its time for a rebuild....

 

to all those that offer advice and info thanks alot. got my truck back last week from putting a brand new Jasper trans in it. It is AWESOME. Strong tranny. Set me back almost 3 grand but to be honest well worth it. Funny thing is the guy who pulled my tranny told me that the tranny that was in my truck ( i bought this truck used ) was a junkyard tranny. Go figure right?
