Default clicking under dash

2009 dakota.

When I switch my climate control **** from defrost to where it blows through the dash vents I get a really loud clicking noise. It doesn't do it all the time just most.

I any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Is it just one click, or is it a lot, like gears grinding? My 2010 will make a single soft click when changing vent settings like that as the system switches the airflow around.

Edit: More like a "bump" than a click really.

I have heard a noise when i change it but its very faint. i just figure its the noise of the system changing the air flow.

It could be the blend door actuator making the noise. I could find no service bulletins on the issue however, for your vehicle.

mine has done this for a while now it started as every once in a while and has progress to now where its all the time when i turn it off or switch to a different setting.

Im guessing its a actuator not fully closing? and clicking until computer notices? im thinking about disconnecting the battery after i run the truck and complete turn off the controls( stop clicking) and see if that does anything.. worth a shot.

What was the end result of the clicking? Mine just started doing this when I switch between fan speed 2 and 3. Its just one loud click.

There is 2 blend door actuators one is easy to get to by the gas pedal the other one is up under the dash I looks like you have to pull the whole vent system assembly I have a 05 Dakota at work that does that and changed the one by gas pedal but still clicking and think I will be tackling the upper actuator next week looks like a royal pain to do

Actually, there are 3 actuators. The one under the dash behind the glovebox is the Heat/Cool blend door. The other two are located on the side by the gas pedal. Those are the mode doors, i.e. defrost/floor vents/dash vents, etc.
So, if the clicking is heard when changing modes it is most likely one of the two that are easy to get too. If the clicking is heard upon changing temp ****, then it would be the painfully located one on top of the HVAC system.
I just went through this with my 05, it was stuck on cool air even when I changed it all the way to full heat. I was able to pull the glovebox out and tap the actuator with a screwdriver handle and it unstuck it for now. As long as it gets me through the winter I will be fine.
