Default Removing Resonators?

Hey everyone. I have lurked on this site for a few years, and have received a lot of great info here. I have a 06 4.7L 4x4 Dakota SLT. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this.

I went to a local muffler shop today to look into removing my resonators and muffler and having a new dual exhaust installed in my truck. I was told it would be a bad idea to remove the front resonator because it would reduce back pressure, which would reduce power. Is this true? I have read may posts on here that talk about removing both resonators and no one mentions loss of power.

Feel free to remove both resonators, just like myself and plenty of others here have done. If you leave the front one on, your new exhaust will be really quiet too. Removing both of them did not cause loss if power at all. Go and check out another muffler shop.

Wow, you have been around for a long time... I'll give you a 'Welcome Aboard' anyway.

I would put that muffler shop on my list of places never to visit again. They get more cash in hand by adding more parts to install.

Are you getting true duals or a catback with a dual output muffler?

I'm getting a catback with dual output muffler. Was looking at the Cherry Bomb Vortex kit.

You will like the sound. You could do this yourself though and save big bucks. I think I spent like $200 for my kit off ebay then installed it myself.

I agree. There's plenty of room under the truck, so it shouldn't be too much of a hardship to put in a cat back system. You might find it easier if you have a "sawz-all" to cut a few of the old pipes & make it easier to remove. Also, you might want a jack to lift up the back end to get the bent pipes over the rear axle easier. Once you have the pipes and muffler pushed together under the truck, the rest is fairly simple, just a number of clamps and a few hangers. I'd suggest getting 1 or 2 extra clamps, I always manage to snap one or two when I'm pulling them tight. After about a week or so, re-tighten things - you'll also see where there are any leaks at the joints so it's easier to know where you might need to pull things tighter.
