Default 2006 quad stereo replacement with aftermarket

I'm looking to change my radio with an aftermarket. Now I'm hearing all different kinds of stories, and I want the straight facts. Hate being all over the place.

Has anyone change their radio and what was needed?

Where did you get it?

Is it only available online?

What was the cost?

I remember only needing the mount and the harness, is that all I need or is there more?

I put in an Alpine IVA D106 with the flip up screen. Required a wiring harness, mounting kit. Since this is a smaller head than stock, the mounting kit provides a pocket that fills the space. Just big enough or the remote.

Do you not have a factory amp? I do, and I have to buy this interface that's close to $100

I have put in 2 Single Din units. You dont Need the Can-Bus Adapter, You Only do if you want it to get power the OEM way, without it you can tie into the 12v Like I did.
I got the Faceplate, Wiring Harness and Antenna Adapter on Ebay as a kit for like $20-30

There are also 2 Filler Face plates, One with a Pocket and One Without

The infinity system in mine was a decent system and plenty loud for me, I did not feel the need to upgrade. You will have to either bypass the factory amp and install your own, or get the adapter you refer to.

I like my OEM setup..it is nice and clean looking with LARGE buttons. Every aftermarket deck has these tiny, flimsy controls. I have AUX on mine and the speakers don't bother me one bit either

Also, if yiour dead set on doing it, check out Crutchfield. They normally supply all the adapters and such (probably not the amp adapter since that is so expensive).

Cruthfield will be the best way to go. They give you every thing you need to do the job and the prices are good. You could probably just go to best buy if you dont want to do the online deal. Installing it requires a little knowledge on how to connect two loose wires, either by soldering or using those little wire caps. Other than that its pretty easy.

Yeah, I ordered one off Cruthfield, they are really knowledgeable on their stuff. They know what they are talking about. I wired a few radios before, my 01 Dakota, and 92 sierra. Never put one in my trans am, even though my woman wanted one and was mad that there wasn't one, but I loved to listen to that engine more than anything.
