Default 3" Body Lift Kit

Hello, I'm planning on intalling a body lift to my 2006 dakota quad cab 4x4 this weekend. I already tried a suspension lift but the u bolts wouldnt fit around my rear axle and the lower strut bolt wouldnt come out no matter how much bangning I did. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this and offer uo suggestions or how they installed it. Any problems or special concerns I should be focused on? Thanks!

Hello and welcome to DF! Many members have experienced the problems with our lower strut mount bolts, you are not the first. Some have even had to purchase new control arms just to change something as simple as struts, or a leveling kit. Although the cost of new Moog control arms is a little on the expensive side, the good news is that you get new control arms, with new lower ball joints (which is a huge problem, along with upper ball joints, outer tie rod ends, front struts, rack and pinion, etc).

As far as the rear lift blocks go, you have not specified how much lift you were looking to achieve, nor where you purchased the kit. Most kits offered at your local auto parts store will fit both the 8.25" rear end, and the 9.25" rear end...as they have the same tube diameter.

Exactly what I looked into. I came to find out that rough country doesnt even make a 4x4 lift kit for a dodge dakota. But i have moved on from the suspension lift. I have a 3" body lift kit from performance accessories. I have inserted a link to the directions to installing. Do I really have to do all of these small steps? Never done anything like this before. Thanks. http://www.performanceaccessories.co...ions/60163.pdf

IMO, if the manufacturer states a step must be performed, and you have never installed one before (and have no prior knowledge if said step is not required) I would follow the instructions to the T.

I figured, just wanted to see what others experiences were. I should have some pics up on Friday. Thanks for the advice.

This is because someone threw a temper tantrum when they installed the leveling kit on a 4x4...they had premature ball joint failure, tie rod end failure, etc. The 2WD and 4x4 struts are exactly the same.

Before you get flamed into the next zip code, yes, follow the instructions...completely. Prepare for an even worse installation experience with the body lift, some of the body bolts will turn you into a cutter....
