Default License Plate Lamp Oddities

Anyone ever come across this type of defect?

I have no idea why they did this or what could have caused it. I have only ever changed one of the bulbs so its not a bulb issue I don't believe. With that said is anyone able to find them for less than $21 each? The part number is 55055292. Seems like the cheapest place is here http://www.dodgepartsstore.com/oem-p...-lamp/55055292 The dealerships all want $40 each...@#$%

It looks like it's the same exact part for any Dakota from 1997 to 2011.

Should be only a couple of bucks at a JY.

Bulbs too close to the plastic, weakening (shrinking) to the point of cracking. Wonder if you could get a general purpose kit like this >>http://www.ebay.com/itm/Westin-00007...#ht_1460wt_808 and make it work? If you do replace them, get some LED's and you wont have the problem anymore.

You know I didn't think about that... hmmm, I need to locate one around this area. I till this day haven't really needed one for my current vehicles. Now my old Dak I used the jys a lot, but that's back when I severely beat my truck

Wise guy... why has it only happened on my truck? I thought about the LED option afterwards

Billy, get LED's they are way cooler. I've had them in for about three years, same bulbs. Only thing is once you go LED in one area you want them EVERYWHERE (at least I did and did just that)

So it looks as if the Junk Yard idea or U-pull it idea is out. I have called around and most want to sell the whole bumper, don't have any 05-newer Dakotas, or have a $20 minimum parts fee. With that, I might as well pay the $42 dollars plus shipping and be done with it. For the $22 savings minimum savings I would have time and gas money invested which in turn would make a zero dollar savings to me. I did find an alternative if people are looking for one on ebay but my total price would be $48 for these ebay aftermarket/need to be spliced in ones as compared to the $52 for the OEMs. This place seems to be the best overall including shipping, http://www.autopartsmopar.com/oem-pa...-lamp/55055292

Anyways, what are some of the LED options you guys have found? I am guessing these lights wouldn't need a resistor beings the computer doesn't monitor them? That's my only draw back to going all LED everywhere else. I don't want to cut into the harnesses to put in a resistor.

Correct, no resistor. However, make sure and get some good LEDs. Bought some cheapy ones for my 2001 Ram license plate lights back in the day, and they didn't really light up the plate at all.

Once you put LED's in like 06Dak4.7Silversaid once you put LED's in, Youll wanted them everywhere. I have White LED's in my Front Overhead Lights and Blue in my Rear. Then Blue in my HVAC, White in my Cargo (have a LED 3rd Brake), Reverse Lights, License Plate lights, and installed Blue LED Stripes under the dash. I also installed LEDs in my Parents Car to haha.

You can replace everything that does not blink with LED's. Only the blinker (dual filament lamps) require the load resisters. I could never get the LED's to work in my trucks blinkers, even with the load resisters, so I just gave up.
