took reciprocating saw to the fenders because of rust
What do we think? I avoided expensive body work that would not fix the cause of the problem anyway. Added bonus; larger tires will clear (these are 32"/ 255/75/17). Probably go with 285/75/17 (34") or 255/80/17 (33") down the road.
I admit it is a hack job, but for a guy who washes his truck once a year just to put some wax on it...
oh yeah, painted the wheels too and added a leaf. This all started with a brake job. once the wheels were off I decided to take care of all the stuff I'd been neglecting.

pics disappeared? it seems that previous uploads hang around and if I delete them to post another pic in another post, the images attached to previous posts disappear? here are the relevant pics for this thread again. I will not be able to post new pics while these are up. weird

It could still rub on the frame or suspension components..looks good though. Which Ram wheels are those? They look non-OEM or you painted them or something. I like them a lot

sorry to leave yall hangin.
I will either pad the steering stops or back space the wheel to run a 285 75 17 (33.9") with out rubbin the frame. I will probably end up with the 255 80 17 though--love that tire. 33.3" and will tuck under the fender and it is E rated.
The wheels are 02-03? Hemi rams. 17"x8"ish. I painted them--a little darker than I wanted, but they look good when everything is clean, which is never.
I appreciate the compliments. I thought I was having a bad dream when I realized what the H I was doing to my truck, but wifey assured my that it was within spec.
The rust is common on these, and I don't see a way to prevent it on the rear wheel arches. Moisture and debris get in the pinch seam between the inner and outer fender. That spot does not have much paint and does not allow the water to escape. The rest of the truck was fairly rusty too, but nothing proper maintenance cannot handle. Clean, degrease, wire brush, self etching primer, rust preventative enamel, anti-seize... rinse/wash often!!
I will be trimming the rear 1/4s and bumpers too something like donkeypunch's truck, but not as extreme. I will eventually fab some tame off road bumpers instead but that's way down the road when these rust off. I am trying to create a "factory off-road" look. What a trx should look like.
