Lol there is a conversion
I'd love to have one if they weren't so expensive, around $1500 to $1800.

I heard Chevy put 2 single spins in a 4x4 back in the early 70's
I'm not familiar w/the term "single spins" could some one explain it to this dummy?
BTW, I did a search w/google and didn't find anything related to 4X4s.

Hmm.....
Damn right, the REAL Hummers/Humvees/H1 (army units) use IFS (Independent Front Suspension) and IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) to.

There are quite of bit of high speed desert race trucks use custom HD IFRS systems to take the hard impacts from the jumps and still be flexible with great traction.

It's not just the Army that has the HMMWV.

I know, but when you say Hummer people think of POS H2's.

When you say Humvee/HMMWV then they know you're talking about the H1's.

As for IFS having more ground clearance, that's true until the suspension compresses. Then, the IFS ground clearance gets smaller, but the solid axle stays the same.

Agreed. You needed some beef for that rig. As for the front diff, even if the internals get beefed up the alum housing can give. I may eventually lock mine, but I will try not to give it too much heck in a bind.

The h-1s have portal hubs too. More ground clearance!

I have an 05 Quad Cab with AWD, LSD, and the optional 17" wheels. This truck performs very well in both snow and mud. The difference is the LSD. A locker would be better, but this works great as a daily driver. Like Very Old Guy, I have been driving since before Kennedy was President. I have owned a number of 4 x 4 vehicles in that time, and we currently have three. The Dakota; a 1993 K2500 HD Suburban with 7.4L engine, locking differential and automatic hubs; a 1985 Jeep Scrambler with Trak-Lok rear diff., and manual front hubs.

I grew up in the mud country of Louisiana, and it took me just one vehicle to learn about LSD and locking differentials. If you did not have one, you may as well stay at the house, because you would get stuck early and often. Wheel chains were the saving grace in those years. My Wife will tell you that my first look at a truck is to the window sticker to see if it has a locking or LSD differential, and skid plates. If not, find another one. I am very surprised that this seems to be such a big secret. However, I realize that most 4 x 4 vehicles spend their lives raised two feet off the ground, and running on the pavement. Things have sure changed since Eisenhower was President!
