Default Transmission or electrical problem?

I've got a 2005 Dakota SLT 4.7 4x4 . When I start it up it runs fine no problems. But when I turn it off and restart it, I have a bunch of lights come on on the gauge cluster and it seems like it is stuck in 4th gear. After the engine cools down, everything is fine again. Any thoughts?

Disconnect the battery for an hour or so. Clean all the battery connections and make sure all connections are tight. These trucks are funny beasts when the battery begins to have issues. I'd also get the battery lead tested to make sure it is good.

I would have the vehicle scan for codes first and see if you have a communion buss codes. It may keep it as a stored code. But if you remove the battery cable, its a good chance that you loose these codes if they are stored.
