Default ABS light comes on for a moment

This has been happening recently. The ABS light and the brake light come on for a split second then go off. This is accompanied by a single chime. Days or weeks would go without a repeat but it happened again today . I scanned for code but didn't get any.

You have a code reader for the ABS system?

For ABS and airbag codes, you'd need an advanced code reader. The usual vehicle owner owned OBDII code reader is a basic code reader.

I just have the OBDII code reader. There are some posts about intermittent ABS light but there is no consensus what causes it.

I dont know that anyone has actually taken it to the dealer for a diagnosis. They are the only ones I know of with the equipment to get ABS codes.

On one of our vehicles we sometimes get an ABS light when the drivers seat is moved, then after a while it goes out. Been doing this for years.

The dealer will have the diagnostic tools to better pinpoint the cause of the issue. Per the Service Manual if there are no codes, they can inspect the related wiring harness and connector terminals. Monitor the scan tool parameters while wiggle testing the related harness and connectors.

I'll just wait until it stays on. They'll tell me there is nothing wrong or say they "fixed" it and I have no way of knowing it.

Have you checked the brake fluid level? When mine was low, both ABS and Brake lights came on. Just a thought.

This is true of any repair facility. The light (be it check engine or ABS, or airbag, etc) has to be on for them to diagnose.
