Default Tonneau cover, roll up vs tri-fold

hey guys. So I'm finally working again, so I have money to spend on my truck. I'm about to be doing some highway driving for work with my truck and I want to get the best gas mileage possible, so for now I'm looking to get a tonneau cover. I'm going to do an e-fan hopefully later this fall or early spring, but I'm putting a 180 T-stat this weekend when I also do an oil change.

I got quotes from two places, one for the truxedo truxport, and one for the extang trifecta. I'm not sure which one I should go with. The trifecta is $60 more then the truxport.

The truxport is a roll up and gives me full access to the bed when rolled, but doesn't have as much support for weight on it, like snow. And I'm not sure how the Velcro would hold up to my winters up here , with -40 weather and lots of snow.

The trifecta has more internal support from the three panels so it should hold up to the snow better, but it covers one third of the bed when folded. I know it only takes seconds to remove it but how much of a pain that is I don't know yet.

So, does anyone have experience with either of these? Can anyone send me pics of these on their trucks? Is the trifecta worth the extra money for the extra support vs the snow or should I save my cash and go with the truxport

Default Tonneau cover

Hey, we're a forum sponsor that makes roll-up tonneau covers. Maybe you'd like to give us a shot: ACCESS Roll-Up Covers.

We make our tonneaus in North Dakota, so we know a bit about cold winter weather. Our covers stay soft down -40F and keep snow and other stuff out of your bed.

Also, we offer a 15% discount to all forum members. Just type DODGEFORUM in the promo code box at checkout for the discount.

I would definitely go with Access if i decided on doing roll-up, but the issue is shipping to me. None of the online retailers listed on the Access site ship to Canada. Your prices are great (in the US), and i'm sure your products are just as great, but access to Access in Canada is limited if non-existant. None of my local suppliers can get Access themselves, which is why i'm looking at those two options.

I just called Access and spoke with someone who referred me to a dealer that is a few hours away. Speaking with this dealer, i got a price that was over $100 more then the others i got from the two i was looking at above. I'm really sorry, i would do Access as you support the forum, but the price is just going to kill me.

I have the Truxedo Truxport and think it's great. The Velcro is still in great condition, no weak spots at all. It's been buried in snow and has been through some cold winters, maybe not as cold as your though. Full bed access is mandatory in my book. I can post up some pictures tomorrow.

tonneau cover = better mpg is a myth.. http://www.popularmechanics.com/scie...yths-7#slide-7

However if you're looking at them for their practicality, I'd go with a roll-up or trifold. Mine's a BakFlip trifold. I would recommend their HD or F1 version.

Yeah, don't expect any mileage gains with a cover.
Truxedo Truxport below, never a drop of water gets in the bed.

I prefer the soft tri-fold and Extang Trifecta is my choice. I put one on my Dakota a couple of years age and recently got one for my RAM. For the RAM, I ordered from here. Free shipping to anywhere in Canada and was the cheapest price (comparing to other Canadian prices). I'm not sure they list covers for a Dakota, but might be able to help you if you call their toll free number. Good luck
