Default Fog lights with brights mod question???

Anyone done this On their Dakota?

I just ran a wire from pin 87 on the parking lights relay to pin 87 on the fog lamp relay and the fog lights stayed on with the brights but won't turn off when I turn the lights and truck off....?

Is this not working because I have hid fogs?

Any input from you guys?

I won't get into how you really shouldn't do that (messes with the night vision, too much light in the near field causes less eye sensitivity in the far field) but ask a simple question.

What does the wiring diagram for your truck say?

That is, how is the relay activated for the fog lights (switch 12V to 86 or 85, or switch ground on the other coil wire), and how is the relay for the parking lights toggled (same question).

I have a 1988, so my diagram (without factory fogs!) won't help much.

That is a tough one. Read CANBUS. On newer vehicles this is complicated one. I'm not aware of anyone that successfully did this. I never could figure it out. What I did was upgrade my fogs to HID, after that, I never had to turn my high beams on again.

yeah I'm running hid headlights & fog lights. But still want more! I have a 48 mile drive over two mountain passes just to get to work so the extra light is a plus.... maybe I need to add in a relay because I'm running hid fogs?

Here's an idea - go back to halogens.

HIDs have too sharp a cutoff for driving in really hilly territory for my money, personally.

The problem is the fogs are part of the existing system, tough to work around. Have you considered adding aftermarket add ons that could independently be fired by the hi beam cicuit?

Yes I have. If there is 100% no way around this then a led light bar might come into play....

Yea, I was going to suggest a bull bar so you could add more lighting. Get some KC highlights or PIA or something like that, run them off a dedicated circuit with a switch. Might be a better alternative than accidentally messing up the electrical system.
