I think this is mostly just a way the motor is setup. I've had six Dakota's. All except the 92 had the 4.7. All of those felt pretty strong on the low end until I got the 2011. It doesn't feel as strong off the line as the others but runs like a damn raped ape at higher RPM's. Like you said it feels like a switch at higher revs. As the RPM's climb it just all of the sudden launches and feels like a different truck.

You should have the same 300hp upgrade as I have. It just doesn't feel like the typical american truck V8. It feels like something out of a Japanese car and made to build power in the upper RPM range.

I didn't really like it first but got use to it. I guess I like it on the interstate where it can really stretch its legs when needing to pass. I can mat the pedal to overtake and it's bounding off the speed limiter before I realize it.

The stock 4.7 TC stalls at around 2400 behind a more powerful engine such as the 5.7 hemi.. it's often used as a cheap substitute for Ram owners builds... behind the less powerful 4.7, it's more like 1800-2000. That's still pretty high considering many vehicles start off at 1400. I used the 2012 Ram R/T torque converter in my Hemi swap, and it was considerably looser than the stock one, even though it supposedly comes in at 2600rpm.
