Red face 08 V8 4.7 - Slow then get's a nitro boost?

hey, new owner of a 2008 Dakota V8 4.7 had 79,000 Miles on it....Issue. no get up and go. After it hits say 45 MPH is kinda feels like i hit a nitro boost lol. gets up and go's like the popo is on your tail. I checked the Plenum and seems dry as a bone when i take the intake off. pulled a spark plug on the top rows (did't check bottom row) and they seem to be replaced bosh and not to bad looking. odd part is some times when it's cold it runs like a champ for a few mins then poops out... not to sure whats going on and the MAS looks look. replace stock intake to k&n CAI and still issue. it's just very annoying when slowly increasing speed then it takes off OR when i need to merge on expressways and it needs to be pushed hard sluggish then takes off before the guy tailgates me ugh. it's driving me nuts.

Most likely the way the transmissions are geared in these trucks. S superchips tuner will take care of that. Welcome to the forum.

thanks for the reply, you thinks that's what it is? i drove a 2011 Dakota and it had some pick up off the line. then again. did't have the tow package my 08 has tow package, i guess that could be it. just strange feeling on the "nitro boost" and with the superchips...i heard it will destroy the motor / tranny if i attempt to tow anything with it tuned. is this right?

Most guys that have the Superchips tuner use the tow tune for the torque benefits. I know that my '05 v8 used to be pretty quick, but with the tuner I've noticed a difference. I don't have the tow package, but I'm not sure why that would slow your start so dramatically. Not sure why a tuner would wreck your engine or transmission while towing if it has a tune specifically for towing, but I haven't done any towing. I do know that before the tuner I never used to have my head rock back when the truck shifts from 1st to 2nd at WOT. That puts a smile on my face every time.

i'll have to check it out, i'll be new to the superchip. anthting i should know about them? do they come with pre loaded tunes? or do i need to know some one who knows how to do this? i would like to get more get up and go outta her and i know she can do it (noticed by the "nitro boost" after 3k RPMs) but also would like to be able to tune it back for when i need to tow and get my torque for pulling and not get up and go. i may be pulling some heavy camper at some point . again thanks for the reply oh and i love this truck other then the lacking from start pep... :=/

There's pre-loaded tunes, and one included is a tow tune. Some of us run the tow tune all the time anyway. You can change the tune anytime that you want, or return it to stock too. Superchips 3865 is the one most of us have, but it's been replaced by the newer 3841 & 3842. You can find a used SC 3865 on these forums, craigslist, and Ebay for around $200 shipped. If buying it used, just make sure it has been returned to stock, meaning it's still not linked to another vehicle. If you plug it into a computer or your truck, you'll see the status of the tuner. Either new or used, make sure to update it with your computer before using it.

I believe a stock 4.7 Dakota 4.7 with 545rfe trans torque converter is a 3000 or 3500 stall which will lock up at about 3500 rpms I know on my 05 quadcab 4.7 I notice jump in torque even with Superchips much better shift points

first off, what grade gas are you running? also now that winter is coming they are starting to put all the crap in the gas to prevent freezing, truck should pull good off the line thru all gears, try running some 93 octane to see if truck likes that grade of gas.

Superdak05 thats what i figure, should do good off the line and same power thoughout the gear range. I put reg gas in for now,but did try some,93 and got better MPG but that is all. First and 2ed gear is crap....4ed at 3k rpms kicks butt and halls herself...mechanics say im crazy but she dont go anywhere ... I wanna just sell, her now i love it and wish it woke up...or at least wish some, one could say "oh your right, it is,sluggish"
