I had it a bit. Switched to castrol syntech or something like that. Quieted it a bit, but it was still there on really cold days. Went away after a minute or so. I never really worried about it.

Mobil 1 5W-30 since the first change, 92,000 miles.

I have the 3.7L, but my understanding is that they're basically mechanically identical to the 4.7L except with a balance shaft. Very rarely do I ever hear the tick, usually only if the truck hasn't been run for more than a couple days. And even then, it's less than a second long.

I run royal purple now, but for the first 1000 miles after rebuild I ran valvoline and the only tick I have is injectors, and can only hear them if I try (the fan covers it up quite well) if the oil stays in the top of the engine then what is in the pan to be picked up by the pump?

i read on the Magnatech stuff and yeah, snake oil. It says that the oil coats the engine with a film, which over time will be an issue.
Just turn up your stereo or your fan when you start up while the engine is warming up and you don't have to listen to it.

i only hear it in my 3.7 if i really pay attention to it. I haven't heard it all winter, i use remote start and it's warm by the time i get to the truck.

I have been running Mobil 1 with BG MOA since 38 test miles. 170K+ and zero ticking. I use BG 109 once a year, MOA every oil change.

Where does one get these BG products in Canada. Anyone know of a place that has it (NAPA, Part Source, Benson, etc...) or is it something that can only be found at specific dealers? All i can find on their site is a place called Wagonmaster in Richmond Hill Ontario, Which is just shy of 700 KM away

after lots of reading i went with penzoil ultra synthetic in 5w20. pretty pricey but im happy to say the ticking at start up has been reduced like 95 percent it was taking 1 min to go away even longer at below freezing. its quite warm here now its gone in like 10 seconds
