Default Alert tone with no apparent reason

08 V6 quad cab 32,000 miles. I've been getting an alert tone about 10 seconds after start-up. No warning lights to go with it. Seatbelt is fastened. Any ideas?

I have it too. I've always assumed is was the "All systems good, Roger, go with throttle up" signal. . . . .

does you cluster light up when you first turn it on? if not there might be a light that would be showing but it's not lighting up.

have you tried pulling codes? either with the key trick or with a scanner. you might need to be plugged into a scanner and see if it flashes a code.

I thought that sound (chime) was the oil change reminder. Never had any lights to go along with it.

Try:

1) Turn ignition on but do not start the truck.

2) Within 10 seconds, slowly depress & release the accelerator 3 times.

3) Turn the ignition off.

In fact, in the past few days I reset my 2008 Dakota. I don't put many miles and although I'm a few months past the suggested date, I still have about 600 miles to go to reach 3,000 miles. It started chiming about 10 seconds after start up - a few seconds after all the dash warning lights go off.

There is only a single chime at each start-up. I've only had the truck a few months. Did an oil change right after I got it, but didn't reset anything. I'll try resetting like you said. Thanks.

An oil change itself does not reset the chime. The procedure I mentioned is what is done.

Last oil change I had done, the shop didn't do it so as soon as I started it to leave, 10 seconds later 'ding'.

Went back in, guy claims he reset it but said sometimes you have to it twice especially if you don't do it within the time limit (10 seconds).

Thanks for the info. That chime was bugging me because there were no dash lights to indicate what it was for.

i just wanted to add this (yes i realize this is from March) for anyone that seeks a possible solution for this. I was getting a single chime a few seconds after started up like when the low fuel light comes on, but no cluster lights would come on at all. My truck doesn't remind when it's time for an oil change either. Took me forever to figure it out after reading through the factory service manual. It stated that a single chime would sound if there were any lights not working on the truck. I knew my rear Driver's side turn signal was out because I got the fast blinking indicator on the dash cluster, but i never put that with the chime since i never have my blinker on a few seconds after start up. I finally stopped being lazy and replaced the bulb. the chime at startup went away.
