How long is long enough....
How long is long enough....[:@]
This coming week I will be at the 6 week point of having my 2006 Dakota 'on order' and my dealer says the
paper work is still setting on the Regional Reps desk as of 2 days ago. [:'(] The RR's response is that production for
Daks is on hold...but when cornered on another order which had been built but has not been shipped, he could
offer no explaination. Has production been suspended? awaiting a recall on 2006?
Anyone have any info to shed on this? I have no reason to doubt the dealer since this is the 3rd time in the last 3
months that this has happened.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

I know there is a recall on them and the durangos so maybe that has something to do with it. Hope you get it soon.

I could not find any recall notice, but perhaps that is my lack of being able to find it. I did try to find something before posting.
Time line for delivery is into next year. Too much downtime with all the coming holidays.
If anyone has more info on what the recall is all about, I would appreciate it.

A more likely reason IMO is that the factory might be closed to reduce inventory of unsold vehicles. Shuttering a factory for that long just because of recall items on products which don't account for the factory's entire production doesn't make sense. (After all, not everyone orders side airbags, and from what I've read on the trans problem, my understanding is that the 5-45RFE used on V8 Dakotas is not affected, and the troublemaker is simply a plastic plug which may have been left inside the trans case.)

Well a Google search turns up Automotive.com which currently reports
"There are no recalls for this vehicle."
http://www.automotive.com/2006/12/dodge/dakota/recalls/
http://www.autobuyguide.com/2006/12-...akota/recalls/
"There is currently no recall data available for this vehicle."
I would think that if the recall was announced that these would know. Nothing on the Dodge Forum but '05.
I did see that the 2005 had a side airbag recall but that was Jan 2005.
Also if a recall had been announced, an authorized dealer would eventually know about it.
So far a lot of BS from the regional rep which tends to reflect on his product even though it may be unintentional. I am sorry to hear that since I have been a Dodge man since '68 - boy were those the days....but that's another story.
As far as production goes, the word is that efforts are being put into the Dodge Ram Mega Cab but I don't know what effect that might have on the Daks. The dealer has verified that an inventory Dak has been built but setting for the past 2 months because the factory will not ship. 14 weeks on another special order '06 Dak which was just recently delivered early Nov.
If anyone has links to those notices mentioned earlier, I would appreciate it. Google returns hot air.

Follow up to the previous message.
Apparently the NHTSA is involved and this link has some very good information:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0...tsa_dodge.html
Perhaps the investigation will produce a recall and the 2006 Dak will be included.

RE: How long is long enough....
I thought I would follow up this thread with a few additional comments.
First of all, I'M STILL WAITING ON DELIVERY![:@][:@][:@]
No additional information is available on any recalls so I don't feel that is part of the picture.
Each week, there seems to be different ship dates and different arrival dates.
10 days short of 3 months...come on folks....tell me it's worth the wait.
